The City of Toronto is planning on redeveloping the St. Lawrence Market North site on the north-west corner of Front and Jarvis Streets. As well as meeting targets for sustainability and respecting the historic character of the area, the new building is meant to counteract the current under-utilization of the site with a mixed-use facility, including an improved farmer’s market space at grade (with a mezzanine) that will double as an event space, four levels of office space above the market, and 3 levels of underground parking.
SBC developed and managed an Integrated Design Charrette bringing together a variety of green building specialists including architects, mechanical, electrical and structural engineers, experts in costing, lighting, building envelope, renewable energy, green roofs, water, life-cycle assessment and so on, along with City staff, to share their expertise and develop sustainable building schemes that met the City of Toronto’s Green Development Standard.
