Robert Smith, Director of Energy & Environment, The Minto Group
With over 15 years of experience in the energy management and sustainability field, Robert Smith is the Director, Energy and Environment of Minto’s Sustainability Team. Robert leads a team of professionals who provide insight and guidance on award-winning sustainable design strategies for Minto’s real estate portfolio. Robert has been instrumental in Minto’s environmental achievements including the first LEED® multi-residential certification by the Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC), MintoRoehampton, the first high-rise multi-residential building to achieve LEED®-Gold Canada; a LEED®-Gold Candidate office building – 180 Kent Street; and Minto’s Inspiration House – highest rated LEED®-Platinum project in Canada (an EQuilibrium Net Zero single family home). As a leading expert in net zero construction; Robert has presented at numerous conferences, including international events held in Beijing China, Melbourne and Brisbane Australia, COP16, The United Nations Climate Change Conference, and most recently at GEED, on promoting energy efficiency as the first fuel to the 112th U.S. Congress, held in Washington D.C. He was also an executive dialogue speaker at EEGlobal Forum held in Brussels Belgium where he presented on both Zero Energy Communities and “The Best Buildings in the World”. Robert sits on the LEED Canada Steering Committee and is Chair of the Ottawa Sustainable Cities Committee.
