Alex Lukachko has been a building science and sustainability consultant and educator for over 20 years. Alex teaches the integration of energy, building science and design concepts in the architecture program at the John H. Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape and Design at the University of Toronto. As a consultant, Alex is typically involved in early design work for high performance new or retrofits construction, with a particular focus on design to address the climate crisis.

As a Professional Engineer, Certified Passive House Consultant, and LEED Accredited Professional, Amy is well-positioned to support the design and construction of high-performance new and existing buildings. She has a particular interest in the preservation of historic and heritage buildings. Jenny Hill
Green Infrastructure and Storm Water Management

Jenny Hill (Jen) is an Assistant Dean in the Daniels Faculty at the University of Toronto, where she teaches Landscape Hydrology. Her consulting and research work encompasses both landscape and building scale water resources management. Prior to rejoining the University she was a Research Scientist and the primary technical author to the revised Ontario Conservation Authorities’ online guide for the design of low impact development (LID) strategies for stormwater management. Jen has been contributing to the Savings by Design program for Sustainable Buildings Canada since 2015, and regularly participates in review panels for non-governmental organizations and municipalities. She holds degrees in Water Resources Engineering, Landscape Architecture, Forensic Science, and Chemistry.

Robin Hutcheson has been a part of the SBC team since 2013, providing facilitation, and expertise with renewable energy, HVAC systems, and commissioning. He also served on the SBC Board of Directors. His engineering firm, Arborus Consulting works on high performance buildings and renewable energy supply. With the evolving impact of climate change, he has also turned his attention to Infrastructure Resilience, completing a professional program with the Climate Risk Institute and has prepared climate risk analysis for projects. Haley Rae is committed to using an intersectional approach to design, actively including and learning from people with a range of perspectives, and educating others about the diversity of ways to create spaces for all. She helps to lead and develop inclusive design strategies and practices across multiple complex projects and various public forums. She primarily focuses on services such as consulting, certification and benchmarking, guidelines and standards, building audits, and training. She contributes her technical expertise on national, provincial and municipal accessibility requirements and better practices. She actively practices allyship, and draws on her lived, professional and volunteer experiences to advocate for inclusion, equity and accessibility. Haley Rae's background in environmental design, and experience as a design educator at OCAD University, contribute to her unique perspective in accessibility consulting.

Dr. Randy Van Straaten is the President and a Building Science Specialist at Building Enclosure Labs Inc (BELi) in London Ontario. BELi is a client focused laboratory testing, analysis, and consulting firm bringing science and sustainability expertise to the building industry. Current work is focused on existing buildings including: risk assessments and design assistance for insulation retrofits of old buildings; embodied carbon analysis for products and buildings; facility decarbonization planning; and testing, analysis, and field reviews supporting litigation and warranty claims. Kevin Day
Building Performance and Enclosure Expert

Kevin has over 30 years of building science, enclosure engineering and restoration experience across Canada and the USA. He focuses on building performance, durability, and energy efficiency – he’s a current member of standard committees: CSA S478 Guideline for Durability in Buildings, and CSA A440.6 High Exposure Fenestration Installation. In 1999, Kevin started the ULC-S716 series of EIFS standards as committee chairman, residing on the task group until 2008, then rejoining in 2021. He was on the ULC-S700A Thermal Insulation Committee from 1999-2008 as well as ULC-S700B from 2006-2012. Kevin received the Anthony A. Woods Award (the Beckie) by the Ontario Building Envelope Council in 2014. Kevin is a former member of ASTM E6, C11, and C16, on building performance, gypsum systems and thermal insulation materials. In 2021, Kevin was appointed ISO Technical Committee 163 - SC3 - Thermal insulation products, components and systems, and designated as the EIFS expert for Canada in Working Group 9.

Adam Sylvestre
HVAC Design Expert

Adam is the founder and president of Sustainable HVAC Design, Inc. Adam has 11 years of experience in the residential HVAC design industry. He is HRAI-certified in air system and hydronics design and an IGSHPA-certified residential geothermal designer. He draws on his production and custom home experience to design energy-efficient systems with home comfort in mind. He holds a degree in engineering technology and a diploma in alternative energy engineering.

With over 30 years’ experience in energy efficiency, green building, sustainable development and clean energy, Larry supports the residential construction Industry with code development and technology innovation knowledge transfer. He has been appointed to numerous federal, provincial and municipal taskforce positions including the Federal Renewable Heating Initiative, Provincial Building Code Development and Toronto Pandemic Recovery Committees. Larry has extensive Board governance experience with SBC, BILD, EnerQuality, CaGBC Toronto Chapter and iiSBE, an International UNEP organization.
