Dr. Khosrow Farahbakhsh is an Assistant Professor and professional Environmental Engineer at the School of Engineering - University of Guelph with over 15 years of experience in water and wastewater treatment, and air pollution control. He has extensive experience in the design of water and wastewater treatment facilities, facility audit systems and system reviews. He has designed several innovative and ecologically sensitive wastewater treatment plants, and has been a special consultant to the First Nations and Inuit Health Branch of Health Canada in assessing water treatment systems in over 30 First Nations communities in Alberta.

Professor Farahbakhsh has worked as an environmental engineer with Public Works and Government Services Canada, engaged in such activities as environmental audits, site assessments, and soil / groundwater remediation. 

He has also worked as an environmental engineer with ABL Environmental Consultants in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, helping them develop several environmental technologies including an all-enclosed “rapid-fill sequencing batch reactor” for municipal and environmental wastewater treatment, as well as an activated carbon system for odour control. In addition, he has designed numerous wastewater and water treatment facilities and conducted operator training and support.

His extensive knowledge and expertise in and outside his field of research means he is a much sought out personality, by both private and public groups, to conduct training seminars, give public talks, and speak on environmental issues in Canada and around the world. Local appearances include dozens of public speaking engagements, including CafeScientific.ca.

Dr. Farahbakhsh’s current research activities are in the area of integrated water resources management.
